Finish Fit boot camp has demonstrated to me that I am VERY capable of pushing my body to its limits. Prior to starting the class I was nervous because it had been a really long time since I had been physically active. With Finish Fit I am now 5 pounds away from my pre-baby weight, something I had been trying to lose for two years! Thanks Lauren, Brett and Armen for helping me lose 10 pounds in four weeks!

David Binns
My name is David Binns. I began working out three years ago and while I was able to lose weight, I still lacked tone. I began lifting but only showed very small results after a year. Since I have started training with Armen, I have gained about 8 lbs of muscle in a short 3 months. I have more energy, better stamina, and my workout regimen has improved as well to be more rounded. These are things that I tried to do myself by reading books on the subject but that I am now convinced only comes with years experience and an extended education in training. These are both things that Armen possesses and has used to guide me to very favorable results. Using his advice I have improved my diet, and focused on foods that help burn fat and build muscle. My workouts have reached new levels with him pushing me to attain the best results. Armen has also helped me to create a workout schedule for the whole week, not just at personal training. I would recommend personal training to anyone who wants fast results that last.

Performance-Enhancing Drugs

Anabolic steroids promise big results, but they come with even bigger risks.

When you see bodybuilders with unnaturally large muscles, you wonder how they got that way. Did they dedicate their lives to weight training and special dieting or did they get a little help from anabolic steroids?

Unfortunately, many athletes and weightlifters seek to improve their performance or build muscle through the use of illegal drugs. Once others see the results, they’re tempted to do the same. What makes them so dangerous?

Anabolic steroids are available through prescription from your doctor. However, they’re not prescribed to help healthy people build muscle. They’re prescribed to men with hormonal issues or muscle loss from specific diseases. Taking them without a doctor’s guidance can lead to dangerous side effects and even addiction.

What are anabolic steroids and what is their risk? Keep reading to find out.

The Manliest Hormone

Both men and women produce testosterone, but the male body produces a lot more. Known as the male sex hormone, testosterone is a key player in male sexuality and reproduction. It’s also used by the body to build muscle, bone, and body hair. Anabolic steroids are made to mimic testosterone’s effect on the body. They can be taken orally, injected into the muscle, or applied on the skin in a cream or gel form.

Though they all have the same effect, there are various kinds of anabolic steroids. A few of the most common include oxandrin, anadrol, winstrol, dianabol, and equipoise. You may also hear them called “roids” or “juice.”

Unwanted Side Effects

Yes, they will give you the big, defined muscles you desire. But using anabolic steroids come at a high cost to your mental and physical health. When men take anabolic steroids, they often deal with stomach aches, prostate cancer, acne and baldness. Steroid use is also linked to increased likelihood of erectile dysfunction, infertility, and development of male breasts.

Women who take anabolic steroids are more likely to take on traits of their male counterparts. They develop a deeper voice and grow more body and facial hair. It’s also common for women to lose breast tissue and hair and suffer acne.

When using anabolic steroids, men and women are at an increased risk for a variety of health conditions. Stroke, heart attack, high blood pressure, blood clots, high cholesterol, kidney or liver problems, and fluid retention are all linked to the juice. Adolescents on steroids often have their growth stunted. And anyone who shares needles when administering the drug is at risk for an HIV, hepatitis B, or hepatitis C infection.

The misuse of anabolic steroids also affects your mental health. Abusers may deal with mood swings, paranoia, aggression, manic tendencies, and hallucinations.

Strong Misconceptions

Many people mistakenly believe they can manage steroids in a safe manner. They think that by “cycling” (taking breaks from the drug), “stacking” (taking different types of the drug), or “pyramiding” (gradually increasing the dose), they’ll avoid the dangerous side effects. Unfortunately, there’s no evidence that these methods work.

Also, steroid abuse isn’t limited to teenage boys and athletes. People of all ages and stages can wind up abusing anabolic steroids. The majority of abusers are male weightlifters in their 20s and 30s who are not athletes.

Powerful Addiction

One of the greatest dangers of anabolic steroids is their addictive nature. Users begin to crave the drug, need more of it to achieve the desired effect, and experience withdrawal symptoms when no longer taking the drug. When addicted, you’ll keep taking them even though they cause negative side effects. Withdrawal symptoms include anxiety, insomnia, depression, anorexia, fatigue, headaches, joint pain, and muscle pain.
